Artist Statement

Kevin Long’s need to create comes from a deep desire to manufacture permanence in the face of impermanence as well as soften otherwise overwhelming circumstances. As a young adult, Kevin was forced to move frequently, due to outside forces like rising rents, violent neighbors, and unhealthy living conditions. Throughout his relocations  among Boston’s neighborhoods and suburbs, Kevin spent countless hours watching pro wrestling and 80’s horror movies while underemployed in retail and educational support jobs. His paintings, prints, and sculptures explore the cycle of economic violence present in the rental housing market, as well as the absurdity and lack of agency within the retail economy. Kevin’s work has been exhibited in the MassArt Auction, Fort Point Open Studios in South Boston, and at the Mother Brook Art Center in Dedham, Massachusetts.

Kevin was born in Pembroke, Massachusetts. He holds a BFA in Studio Education and Painting and is currently working towards an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He has a studio in East Dedham, Massachusetts, where he lives with his wife and their two dogs, Hank McCoy and Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
