Jen Sutherland, Ceramic Artist

Currently I am exploring methods of surface design on clay.  I have come to ceramics after working as a photographer and a printmaker, I have also worked in encaustic collage and illustration. I am intrigued by the ways my experiences with all these processes lend themselves to my clay work. For 16 years I have worked as an elementary art teacher in the Newton Public schools. I believe it is important as an art educator to also be a working artist, and I can’t help but be inspired by my students point of view and the authenticity of their work. Like my students, I try to infuse my work simplicity, honesty and the joy of exploration and discovery.
