Metal: Fundamentals PLUS Jewelry

Our innate curiosity of how things are made, is reason enough to engage in this course. You’ll be exposed to fundamentals of design and fabrication. You’ll use both non-precious and semi-precious metals. Skills introduced are sawing, soldering, drilling, forming, filing, sanding, polishing. Gain understanding of what makes well-constructed and lasting pieces.

*Both basic and more advanced students will scaffold skills and find some new ways to create using metal. To get from one level to another there are many steps. “Mistakes” are steps on our stairway of learning. This class is an introduction to basic metal working for students with no previous experience*. Over the course of 6 weeks, you will explore the fascinating world of metal working from a - z: abrasion to zinc.

You may complete one or several projects, use different processes which will include: sawing, filing, soldering, sanding, forging, fabricating, setting stones in bezel settings, various surface techniques and polishing. Materials you will work with: brass, copper, and sterling silver.

*More advanced students are encouraged to test their limits, follow their passion, and track their progress.
