Mary Kenny

Full Name:
Mary Kenny
Bio:
My art is inspired by odd experiences, strange thoughts and recurring dreams. I strive to make objects which are beautiful, humorous and evocative; works that hint at a narrative vague enough to allow free interpretation by the viewer. Materials and textures are very important in my work. I love to collect and incorporate crafty stuffs: papier mache, felted wool, odd bits of jewelry, swatches of fabric, leather, fur. When I am not obsessively making , I gain inspiration from Nature while hiking the Blue Hills in nearby Canton, MA , tend my large vegetable garden and stay in touch with childhood while teaching sewing to children at Maud Morgan Arts and to adults at Arlington Community Education. My day job as the Studio Arts Coordinator in Harvard's Visual & Environmental Studies Department allows for an endless source of challenging and fascinating interactions. I live nearby in Cambridgeport and have a studio at the Harvard Ceramics Program in Allston, MA.
