Bio:
Cary Rapaport is a ceramicist and mixed media artist based in Boston. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she explored a wide range of studio arts including ceramics, painting, drawing, glass and sculpture. After graduating with a BFA in 2011, she further refined her skill with ceramics through working as a fine art sculptor for the studio of Katherine Houston Porcelain, and has since pursued the development of her own freelance artwork. Cary has shown her art in the greater Boston area and has worked on curatorial projects including All Fired Up, an exhibition she organized at the Piano Craft Gallery last year featuring local ceramic sculptors. Fascinated by the unique challenges of sculpting porcelain, Cary researches and practices both traditional and experimental techniques for her original designs, influenced by intriguing aspects of science, history, psychology and the transformative qualities of clay as an artistic medium. Cary is particularly interested in nerikomi, a method of creating patterns with colored porcelain that she has been incorporating into her work for the past several years. Recently she had the opportunity to attend a workshop in Atlanta with renowned colored clay artist Chris Campbell. Cary looks forward to teaching at Mother Brook Arts and sharing her creative process.
