Danielle Coenen, Oil Painter
Images of anonymous people are my blueprints. In molding these characters, they become a reflection of me. The result is what appears as a different person altogether from the reference, inheriting my state of mind at present and visual characteristics from myself and others in my memories. There is a piece of me in all the people I paint, in the same way that I see aspects of myself through my interactions and relationships with others. In recent work I’m more focused on the application of paint as a cathartic process, while continuously finding new ways to apply and manipulate it.
